STAGE 3. 15 KM. NIGHTTRAIL 🌔🗺️ | Tonight’s nighttrail stage was an experience to remember. The arduous ascent from the waterfall at Petit Coo to the panoramic watchtower view was tough, but witnessing the ‘golden hour’ bathe the Ardennen forests in a warm glow made it all worthwhile. The sunset cast a spell over the landscape, making every step of the climb feel like a journey through a painting.

At sundown, we donned our headlamps and plunged into the dense, dark forest. The descent back to the campsite was a thrilling adventure, with sharp bends and unexpected turns through the same woods that witnessed intense combat during the Battle of the Bulge in WW2. The enveloping darkness heightened the sense of excitement and challenge.

Traversing this historic terrain was a sobering experience, a powerful reminder of the immense sacrifices made by countless soldiers. It’s astonishing to think that only a few decades ago, these forests echoed with the sounds of battle, and now they provide the serene backdrop for our trail running.

As we pressed on through the nighttrail, we honored the bravery and sacrifice of those who came before us. Their courage secured the peace and freedom that allows us to run these trails today. 🪖🇺🇸🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️
